Anti-coccidial
Composition
Oral Solution. 500 mg Toltrazuril (50 mg/mL)
Indications
For the prevention of clinical signs of coccidiosis in newborn piglets on farms with a confirmed history of coccidiosis caused by Isospora suis.
Dosage
Each piglet should be treated on day 3-5 of life with a single oral dose of 20 mg toltrazuril/kg bodyweight, corresponding to 0.4 ml oral suspension per kg body weight.
Treatment during an outbreak will be of limited value for the individual piglet as damage to the small intestine will have already occurred.
Due to the small volumes required to treat individual piglets, the use of a dosing system with an accuracy of 0.1 ml is recommended.
Contraindications
For environmental reasons:
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.
Special warning for each target species
As with any parasiticide, frequent and repeated use of antiprotozoal agents from the same class
may lead to the development of resistance.
It is recommended to treat all piglets in a litter.
Hygienic measures may reduce the risk of porcine coccidiosis. It is therefore recommended to improve hygienic conditions in the concerned facilities, more particularly to ensure cleanliness and low levels of humidity.
Additional supportive therapy may be required to alter the course of an established clinical coccidialinfection in individuals already showing signs of diarrhoea.
Special precautions for use in animals
None known.
